Design: Yew Maze and Parterre William Nesfield with restoration designed by George Carter. Peach cases and ridge and furrow glasshouses by Paxton
The gardens are renowned for their wide variety of splendid specimen tree, with a fine collection of shrubs and borders providing colour throughout the year including rhododendrons, azaleas and wisteria, magnificent displays of herbaceous borders, rose beds and bedding plants. Autumn brings gorgeous golden colours and ripening fruit and vines appear. There are also the walled and sunken gardens, Paxton's peach cases and ridge and furrow glasshouses, a 70-metre pergola, equatorial sundial and magnificent 19th century garden statuary. Children will love William Andrews Nesfield's 1846 yew maze, one of the finest in Europe. New for 2015: the restoration of Nesfield's Parterre to the west of the hall has been completed with a new pool and fountain.
Somerleyton Hall is the family home of Lord and Lady Somerleyton, and has been in the Crossley family since 1863, when carpet manufacturer Sir Francis Crossley Bt, purchased the hall from Sir Morton Peto.
