| Description of Garden | Designer:
'Capability' Brown, Repton, Charles Hamilton |
|||||||||||||
| This hundred acre garden and park surrounding the house has features designed by many of the most famous English landscape gardeners and architect/designers. For example 'Capability' Brown created the lovely lake and parkland, Humphry Repton the landscape, Charles Hamilton built the famous cascade and Robert Adam the orangery and mausoleum. Lately Mary Keen has advised on the planting of the Italianate formal gardens using box hedging and gravel to replace grass paths. The important pinetum, arboretum, Doric temple and rhododendron walks are not to be missed, though the same can hardly be said of some of the modern sculpture. The garden is particularly beautiful in spring with massed bulbs and bluebell woods. |
