| Description of Garden | Designer:
Mrs. Barbara Joseph |

| A large lawn with shrubs, herbaceous mixed borders and one or two specimen trees planted in the grass. Fairly level beyond with more mixed borders, then a steep drop to the pool, criss-crossed with paths and planted with sun-loving shrubs etc. such as Cistus, Lavender, Elaeagnus, Capisca, Pittosporum, Abutilon, Hoheria and Piptanthus Trees include Cercidiphyllum (several) a wide selection of Sorbus, Catalpa (flowering and foliage), Tulip trees. There are many varieties of birches, Magnolias and Cornus. Also many Japanese Maples. There is much foliage, especially evergreens, which is always important for winter interest. The beds are planted with differing colour themes. The soil is neutral, medium loam, but mulched much over the years. A quarter-acre pool was made for children to learn to swim, now incorporated and landscaped. Conditions mostly dry-ish, sunny, steep, sheltered. |

| History of Garden | |||||||||||||
| Began about 1955 as a tidying project and then became an addiction. The Nursery which was started about 1960 now specialises in rare shrubs, trees, plants and is a good source for the garden. | |||||||||||||
