| Description of Garden | Designer:
J. C. Loudon |
||||||||||
| A tranquil oasis, opened in 1832, and easily reached both by road from the motorway networks and by rail from Birmingham City Centre. The general layout is still much the same as the original design with a formal terrace, sweeping main lawn with its Victorian bandstand and 15 acres of magnificent ornamental gardens - including rhododendron, historic, herb, rock, alpine, rose and formal Japanese gardens. From 2002 there will also be an example organic garden and a Children's Discovery Garden. Four fascinating glasshouses - Tropical, Sub-Tropical, Mediterranean and Arid provide year-round interest. Other features include colourful birds, and an Art Gallery. Bands play on summer Sundays and Bank Holidays. |
