| Description of Garden | Designer:

| Crowe Hall is set in approximately 11 acres of varied garden. There are many magnificent trees and dramatic views over Bath and up to Prior Park. The daffodils are at their best in March or early April. The garden is on a steep slope and is full of surprises. There are pools and cascades and fountains, a grotto with intruiging tunnels and long paths mown through the fields, which are magically beautiful in April and May especially. There are many unexpected small gardens; for example, the Hercules Garden, where the hero appears in his lion skin, and in a mosaic pool designed in 1995. The Teazle Garden is so named in memory of a favourite dog. An extensive terrace, surrounded with a balustrade, provides a formal element. In high summer rambling roses festoon the old apple trees. The hanging baskets in the portico are a speciality. |

| History of Garden | |||||||||||||
| The garden is located on a sensational steep hillside and the huge embankments, supported by buttresses, probably date from the 1840s. The log shed is dated 1851 and the greenhouse, sole survivor of many such, from 1852. Mr Carmichael, who had worked at Sandringham, designed intricate geometric beds on the terrace in about 1890. Fortunately these were swept away in the early 1930's when their maintenance became too much of a problem, in favour of the present flat lawn and pool. Since 1961 the garden has been much enlarged and replanted. | |||||||||||||
