Owner will provide guided tours on request. Winsford is home to the best, most ornamental and most innovative Victorian Greenhouses in the West Country. Unusually, you can see them for yourself when you step inside. Variety and exuberance of the planting. Tropical climbers, Bamboo, slate designs. Large meandering herbaceous borders. Large gazebo, huge pergola, 60' Alpine House. 60+ varieties of Thyme. Hedychium, Dahlias, Cannas, Hibiscus, Bougainvilleas, Carnivorous plants and over 100 climber varieties. | History of Garden | |||
| The garden was started in 1833 and it took 2 years to build the 13 greenhouses and the garden walls. Sadly, the decline began in 1919 with the death of the original owner. It accelerated after 1933. By the time the present owners bought the property in 1999 it had become a wasteland of 8ft brambles. The results are all the more amazing in the time, especially since just two people created and maintain the gardens. | |||
