Description of Garden

Designer: Mike Gilmore

This is an amazing plantsman's garden with over 3,000 varieties. Sympathetic conservation has been used to preserve historic Victorian faetures while intensive planting makes the walled summer flower garden a stunning and informative place of pleasure to visit. Owner will provide guided tours on request.

History of Garden

The garden was started in 1833 and it took 2 years to build the 13 greenhouses and the garden walls. Sadly, the decline began in 1919 with the death of the original owner. It accelerated after 1933. By the time the present owners bought the property in 1999 it had become a wasteland.
