The castle dates from 1153 and was built for the ancestor of the present owner, who still lives there.The Butterfly Farm contains more than 40 exotic and familiar species of tropical butterfly.

The extensive gardens have matured in their varied and colourful way, under the hands of successive generations of the Berkeley family. The Elizabethan terraces are very impressive, as is the unusually giant-size Magnolia. The Wisteria is not to be missed in June.The garden is known for its rare and ancient specimens of trees and shrubs. Berkeley offers the visitor majesty and peace in a delightful setting.
