Designer: Sir Humphry Repton Description of Garden: A spectacular drive up to the house through the gorge passes a Robber's Cave and the Lover's Leap. Wonderful views abound. The house is set in 400 acres of historic landscaped country park, once the home of the Harford family. Close to the house are the orangery and an ornamental dairy, both designed by Nash, as was Blaise Hamlet. History: Human occupation of the site goes back to 3,000 B.C. during the Iron Age (c.650 BC - c.AD 43) there was a hill fort on Castle Hill. The estate was bought by Thomas Farr in 1762, but passed to Scandrett Harford in 1789 who had the house designed by William Paly.
