Teas Feb & Mar Designer: Description of Garden: Brandy Mount House has about one and a quarter acres of informal gardens in a secluded location, even though it is very near the High Street of New Alresford. The garden is at its best in Spring with a wide range of bulbs, snowdrops, dwarf narcissi and anemones. Daphnes and alpines are found in terraced beds around the house and there is an Alpine House with a collection of European primulas, narcissi and saxifragus. There is alo a small potager with vegetables and flowers. This is a good Spring garden, but, being on chalk, it tends to get dry in a hot summer and the herbaceous plants are seen at their best in late June and July. There is Autumn interest with colchicums, sternbergias and early snowdrops. History: The garden was first enclosed from pasture in about 1940 when the surrounding trees, many of the apple, were also planted to keep the garden cool and secluded. The present owners, Mr. and Mrs. Baron, moved here about twenty years ago by which time the garden was very run down. They have steadily improved the layout of the garden and built up the collection of daphnes and snowdrops.
