Designer: Description of Garden: The beauty of Cadhay is in its simplicity. Double sided herbaceous borders, backed by yew hedges contain a mixture of popular shrubs and roses. Lawns and Irish yews lead you to the mediaeval stew ponds which are surrounded by native bog plants, Gunnera Manicata, Cotinus coggygria,Dogwood, weeping pear and Japanese cherry. Arriving through an avenue of limes, other plants of note include Cosmea bipinnatus, Magnolia Grandiflora, dahlia hybrids and Echinacea purpurea. Whenever you visit there will be a wide selection of shrubs and perennials to enjoy. Visitors can also wander through the walled kitchen garden with its allotment plots, chat with the resident gardeners, and enjoy tea with home made cakes in the rustic barn. History: The current house was built circa 1550 and the fine timber roof dating between 1420 and 1450 can still be seen. An Elizabethan Long Gallery was added early in the 17th century to form a unique courtyard with statues of sovereigns on each side described by Sir Simon Jenkins as one of the Treasures of Devon.
