Description of Garden:
The garden is beautiful in all seasons, and there are an extraordinary variety of interesting temples, sculptures, fountains, bridges, streams, cascades and ponds in this 1000 acre park on the banks of the river Derwent. The gardens are set in a 100 acre area mainly to the south and west of the house with the spectacular Emperor fountain ascending to 84 metres (rainfall permitting), as the centrepiece. It is the highest gravity fed fountain in the world and emerges in the canal which leads from the house and is the foreground to a beautiful vista of the Derbyshire hills opened up by 'Capability' Brown. Other features of the garden are a mature yew maze, the Cottage Garden and an impressive rockery. The old conservatory garden, kitchen garden and colour matched borders will give endless pleasure and interest as will the arboretum, pinetum and beech hedges.

Inside the house you will find magnificent paintings, sculpture, furniture, silver, porcelain and an outstanding library. Children of all ages will enjoy themselves here with the farmyard, where they can find cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and fish, and also in the woodland adventure playground.
