Many Special events Time of Gifts ( Oct - Feb) Eden's winter festival centered around a magical ice rink. Designer: Architect: Nicolas Grimshaw Description of Garden: Eden is a gateway into a fascinating world of plants. Its home is a dramatic global garden the size of thirty football pitches, nestling like a lost world in a crater overlooking St Austell Bay. One of its giant conservatories is a majestic rainforest cathedral, where the tropical plants found in products are used every day. The slightly smaller is home to the plants of the Mediterranean and the flowers of South Africa and California. A walk amongst the orange and lemon trees is reminiscent of those holiday smells. Outside crescent-shaped terraces tell the story of plants that have changed the world and those which could change our future too. Lavender, sunflowers and hemp are to be found here, andtea too. The whole family will delight in the unique experience, although it is advisable to plan a visit carefully as the garden is enormously popular, attracting over 1.8 million visitors last year, but wherever you are in the world you will instantly recognise this spectacular place, with its stunning architecture and breathtaking living plant collection, as the Eden project, Cornwall. History: Cornwall's spectacular Eden Project fully opened in spring 2001. It had previously been a disused china clay pit. The project cost £80 million and entailed the construction of two enormous geodesic domes.
