Designer: Description of Garden: This charming and informal garden was laid out in the 19th Century and still contains a variety of exotic and unusual plants and shrubs from many parts of the world. It also boasts the highest treetop in Kent. There are glorious displays of flowering shrubs and spring flowers, both in the garden and surrounding woodland, and in autumn the colours are spectacular. Emmetts is equally attractive for its wonderful views over the Weald of Kent. History: The design of the garden was influenced by William Robinson, who advised Frederick Lubbock, the owner of the house from 1890-1926. It was given to the National Trust in 1964 by the then owner, Charles Boise, an American geologist who oversaw a programme of plantings to ensure botanical continuity. A further programme began after the great storm of 1987. Local Inns: Harrow Inn, Ightham Accomodation: Restaurants: Village/Town/Sightseeing: Chartwell Ightham Mote Knole Quebec House
