There is a rookery in the cedar tree, which is probably over 100 years old. We use no pesticides in garden or greenhouses and as a consequence the garden is a haven for birds and other wildlife. History: It was restored by Raymond Hubbard, the present owner. The planning was the subject of Hyams' book, "An Englishman's Garden". It has been featured on television many times and in several gardening books. Raymond Hubbard, who has been a nurseryman for over 50 years, was one of the pioneers of biological control in greenhouses during the 1960s and continues to use these methods today. The house, which is Grade II listed was built by Mrs. Champernowne of Dartington Hall, who also built the church next door.
