Designer: Joseph Paxton and Lewis Wyatt Description of Garden: Tatton Park's 50 acres of garden are among the finest historic gardens in England. The gardens are especially well known for their rhododendrons and azaleas and for perhaps the finest example of Japanese gardens in Europe. The Japanese Gardens were fully restored in 2001 to their original design from 1913. The gardens at Tatton Park also include a terraced Italian garden, a maze, small lakes, an Edwardian rose garden, herbaceous borders, a fernery housing Australian and New Zealand tree ferns and a conservatory housing a collection of plants introduced into England around 1818. The Walled Kitchen Garden grows a variety of fruit and vegetables which were fashionable in the 1900s. Some of England's famous designers - for instance Lewis Wyatt who built the Orangery - were responsible for designing the gardens and associated buildings at Tatton Park. In addition, the garden is a living family history with contributions from those who have lived at Tatton over the centuries. History: The Tudor Old Hall dates from the 15th Century and the Mansion, a stunning Neo-Classical building, was home to the Egerton family for over 200 years. It contains masterpieces by Canaletto and Van Dyck and has its original furniture by Gillows of Lancaster. It is set in 1,000 acres of parkland with herds of red and fallow deer. There is a Farm using traditional methods which has a variety of traditional stock, some of which are now classed as rare breeds.
