Designer: Peter Aldington Description of Garden: A post-war listed house (not open) closely integrated with garden rooms of differing character which have evolved over the past 30 years. The sequence of individual spaces offers focal points and vistas at every turn. Sunken or raised beds, formal box-edging or climbers and unusual plants are displayed against a framework of old walls and mature trees. A plantsman's garden in one acre within the village. The well-known authority on gardens, Sir Peter Shepherd said of Turn End, "I know of no other garden which packs such riches into so small a space with such beautiful and interesting plants". History: In the mid-1960's the architect, Peter Aldington, demonstrated how it is possible, against all the usual opponents, planners etc., to add three houses to an ancient village whilst complementing and enhancing it. He lives in the largest of them and created this garden to complete the effect.
