There are two acres of ornamental garden and two acres of woodland. A notable addition to the garden is the dramatic reflecting pool. The local landscape of rolling hills is reflected in the sinuous hedges that lead to the pool and provide the perfect backdrop for other planting schemes. Anne has a great interest in the history of the local landscape and has incorporated this into the garden design, in particular a large parterre of grasses in a pattern of box hedges based on the local Tithe Map of 1842. The garden was made by Anne Wareham and Charles Hawes. Charles photographed "Discovering Welsh Gardens" http://amzn.to/i4cYBa and Anne's book "The Bad Tempered Gardener" will be published in May 2011 http://bit.ly/eZiG8T Veddw House Garden is starred in The Good Garden Guide. It was an RHS recommended garden, but withdrew from the scheme because it was too expensive for the garden owners. History: The garden has been created over the past 15 years out of two fields. It surrounds a 200-year-old cottage. Local Inns: The Lion at Trellech Piercefield, St. Arvans Accomodation: B&B The Nurtons, Tintern Restaurants: Piercefield, St Arvans Raglan Arms, Usk.
