Description of Garden:
West Wycombe Park is a perfectly preserved rococo landscape garden of 46 acres created in the 18th century by Sir Francis Dashwood, the founder of the notorious Hellfire Club. Numerous temples, including the Temple of Venus, a cascade, a lake with several islands and another temple, numerous fine trees and sweeping lawns provide a continuous series of interesting views as the visitor proceeds around the park, perhaps imagining the Bacchanalian feasts that took place here in its early years.


History: 
Created by Dashwood over a period of 45 years from 1735, the first phase was complete by 1752 but the new impetus for less formal and more natural landscapes led to the employment in 1770 of Thomas Cook, a pupil of 'Capability' Brown. He softened the formal appearance whilst retaining most of the earlier features.
